Princess Cruises Ship Classes
Princess Cruises ships have a straightforward class categorization, all ships in the fleet fall into one of these classes. The main difference between categories is the gross tonnage, amenities, and dining venues available onboard. As of 2024, Princess Cruises has the following ship classes:
- Royal Class: One of the main characteristics of this class is the Sewalk (not included on all Royal Class ships, however, the majority has it), a glass floor that extends 28 feet over the ship's edge, this allows guests to take a scenic walk without leaving the ship. Royal Class ships also offer more dining and entertainment venues, some exclusive to this particular class such as Salty Dog Grill or Chef's Table Lumiere. All Royal Class ships have a capacity of over 3,500 guests and have various luxurious staterooms with balconies. Ships belonging to this class are Royal Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess, Enchanted Princess, and Sky Princess. Due to the variety of dining venues onboard, this ship class is the best for all foodies!
- Coral Class: Only Coral Princess and Island Princess belong to this category, they were initially designed and built with a smaller size so that they could sail through the Panama Canal and were first deployed back in 2003. The Coral Class is significantly smaller than the Royal Class, which also translates into fewer amenities and an overall more intimate and relaxing experience. This class is ideal for guests who want a traditional cruise vacation in a more laid-back atmosphere, yet look forward to the rich itineraries these two ships offer.
- Grand Class: The Grand Class is the largest one of the Princess Cruise ship classes, it is comprised of nine ships total and there is a variation in gross tonnage across all ships from this class. The Grand Class is somewhat smaller than the Royal Class but considerably bigger than the Coral Class, therefore you can expect a fine balance between a laid-back, intimate atmosphere with a lot of entertainment and dining venues. The sports court is another amenity that is very common and widely spread across all ships on the Grand Class. All ships on the Grand Class also have several lounges or lounging areas, the most popular one being the Explorer's Lounge and the Wheelhouse Bar. Caribbean Princess, Crown Princess, Diamond Princess, Emerald Princess, Golden Princess, Grand Princess, Ruby Princess, Sapphire Princess, and Star Princess make up the Grand Class.
- Sphere Class: This is Princess's newest ship class, Sun Princess debuted this class earlier this year and Star Princess coming in October 2025 will be the second ship in the class. These two ships are the biggest, most modern, and most elegant of the fleet, with state-of-the-art facilities and a ton of space to fit more entertainment venues, more restaurants, and, of course, more fun for all guests onboard! The biggest features of this ship class are the sphere-shaped atrium located at the heart of the ship and the amount and variety of eateries, guests will now have a hard time deciding what and where to dine, from the popular and classic comfort food to specialty restaurants with signature dishes, this is the pinnacle of the culinary Princess experience for all ages!
